The urinary system manages, regulates, and eliminates the waste from our body. It includes kidneys, bladder, ureters, and the urethra. Like every other organ in the body, these organs can also have problems. These problems are called urological diseases or urological problems. Some of these problems may involve a simple antibiotic treatment and some may require immediate medical intervention.

The term “urological problems” contain a wide range of conditions that are related to filtering toxins out of the body. These diseases can affect people of all gender and ages. They affect specific areas of the body. In males, they affect the reproductive organs or the urinary tract. In females, they affect the urine tract. There is a long list of urological diseases and disorders. Following are some of the most common diseases in men and women.

  1. Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH): BPH is one of the most common urological issues faced by men. It refers to an enlarged prostate. It is rarely dangerous but can be very troublesome. In this condition, the prostate gland that is located between the penis and the bladder increases in size and can cause problems with urinating. Men with BPH may experience symptoms like weak urination stream, difficulty initiating urinating, urge to urinate frequently, and incomplete emptying of the bladder.
  2. Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): UTIs are more common in women than men. They are the result of pathogenic viruses or bacteria invading the urinary tract and infecting it. One of the most common symptoms of a UTI is a burning sensation during urinating. Some of the other symptoms include the feeling of a full bladder and a frequent urge to urinate.
  3. Urinary Incontinence: Urinary Incontinence means the loss of bladder control. It results in leakage of the urine. It can be embarrassing or inconvenient but is far from uncommon. According to a report by AUAF, more than 15 million people in the USA are affected by urinary incontinence.  Some of the most common reasons that can cause this problem are overactive bladder, pregnancy or childbirth, diabetes, weak bladder muscles, enlarged prostates, UTIs, spinal cord injury, or diseases like Parkinson’s and sclerosis.
  4. Ureteral or Kidney stones: Kidney stones or bladder stones are often the reason why people visit a urologist. Stones are an accumulation of minerals within urines that start forming particles, like rock sugar. Smaller ones can often pass unnoticed through the urinary tract without any medical help. The larger ones get stuck, get bigger with time, and require medical assistance.
  5. Prostate cancer: Prostate cancer affects the prostate gland and can damage the urinary tract. It is surprisingly very common in the elderly. With annual exams and blood PSA tests, it is easy to detect, therefore, it seldom goes unnoticed. Depending on the severity of cancer, surgical treatments may or may not be required.
  6. Erectile dysfunction and pelvic issues: These are both gender-based issues and are difficult to discuss. But it is important to discuss such issues with medical personnel. It can be a sign of an underlying psychological or physical condition. It can cause low self-confidence, stress, and relationship strain. It is usually self-diagnosable.

Some of the other urological conditions include:

  • Prostatitis
  • Bladder cancer
  • Bladder prolapse
  • Interstitial cystitis
  • Hematuria

Tips to improve your Urological health

  • Stay hydrated.
  • Keep a healthy weight.
  • Quit smoking.
  • Perform Kegel exercises.
  • Limit caffeine and salt intake
  • Limit fluid intake right before bed.
  • Use the bathroom when needed.

Take care of your heart and your health will be taken care of. You know your heart but do you know it’s fine or not? Are you taking good care of your heart? While reading this blog you’ll get all your answers.

What is cardiology?

Cardiology in simple terms is a branch of science which deals with heart and blood vessels. It is a branch of medicine which studies heart diseases and it’s treatment. Cardiology is a very complex field and people specialize in different fields. Cardiologists are doctors who specialize in diagnosing and treating diseases or conditions of the heart and blood vessels—the cardiovascular system.

Before cardiology, you need to know basic terms and points related to the heart. These are :

  • The main function of the heart is to circulate the blood in the body.
  • The human heart has four chambers:- right atrium, left atrium, left ventricle, and right ventricle.
  • The right atrium receives blood from the veins and pumps it to the right ventricle. The right ventricle receives blood from the right atrium and pumps it to the lungs, where it is loaded with oxygen. The left atrium receives oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it to the left ventricle. It pumps oxygen-rich blood to the rest of the body. The left ventricle’s vigorous contractions create our blood pressure.
  • Cardiovascular is a term related to the heart and vessels. Cardiovascular diseases refer to the heart condition that includes diseased blood vessels, structural problems, and blood clots.
